Sign in and create a first app

2 min read

The sign-in page shows what the install allows:

  • Username and password for local accounts. The Compose install creates admin; on a Helm install you create accounts with javo user add.
  • Sign in with single sign-on when an OpenID Connect provider is set up.

What you may do depends on your role. A platform admin sees everything; a member creates and runs apps and jobs. Roles come from groups.

  1. Press New app in the top bar.

  2. Pick Streamlit under Dashboards. The form fills in the template’s sample, shown as Sample: <file>, so you do not need code of your own yet.

  3. Leave Where is the code? on Home folder. With the sample selected, the app runs the sample file that ships with Javo. Later you can choose a file from your own home folder instead.

  4. Leave the size on its default, give the app a name in the review panel, and press Create app. Nothing is created if a check fails; the form says what to fix.

  5. The app page shows the start-up steps as they happen: find a machine, attach your home folder, download the image, start the app, check it answers. The first start also installs the app’s environment into your home, which takes longer than later starts.

  6. Press Open. The app is served at /u/<your name>/<app name>/ on the Javo address (or on the apps host your admin set up).

The app page has Stop, Start, Restart and Delete. Stopping keeps your files and settings; the app starts again from its card. If your admin turned on idle stop, an app nobody uses stops by itself.

  • Apps: every template, running from a Git repository, logs.
  • Sharing: who can open your app.
  • Jobs: run a notebook every night.
